OK, today’s post by John Sumser is the last straw … I’m boycotting Recruiting.com effective immediately. For a couple of perspectives on John’s latest ‘insight’:
Are you kidding me? Is John Sumser serious?
Just the Facts Sumser…Just The Facts…
John’s Electronic Recruiting News has never made it to my blogroll or my newsreader … I could look beyond John’s bloviating, but I can’t get past the impression that John is:
- wrong more often than he is right;
- years behind the times – would you look to John as an authority on Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Second Life, etc.?
- more interested in listening to himself than engaging others … perhaps partially explaining why comments aren’t allowed on John’s site; and,
- cavalier in his research.
All of which John is entitled to of course; but I’d posit that his style is driving away readers. Yet now, inexplicably, John is the newly appointed editor of Recruiting.com. As Cheez points out:
“In a recent Web radio interview via The Animal, Sumser refers to user generated content as ‘loser generated content.’ Call me cynical but putting someone in charge of a user-generated site who believes its foundation is built by “losers” might be a recipe for disaster.”
Speaking of Cheez and Sumser, which trend line would you rather have … in less than a year Cheezhead passed InterBiznet according to Alexa … yeah, I know, Alexa has it’s issues, but still, which trend line would you like to have?
So I’ll take my Cheez, my Chad, my Ami, and the gang, without the Recruiting.com wrapper.
Recruiting.com was great while Jason Davis was at the helm … Jason is the best community builder I’ve ever met. How sad then that the site is now led by a bombastic emperor with no clothes.
Bloviate: To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner Opine: To state as an opinion.
I think you may have given resonance to a new term in our word: "blogiate"
Blogiate (v) To bloviate in ones blog.

I fear you will be the first of many to boycott after Jason leaves. Over the past months, I feel, the new recruiting.com has become a community. Unfortunately, it is apparent Mr. Sumser does not believe in community.

Chad, does that mean that, by extension, neither does Jason Glodberg? Or is it just anohter huge error in judgement that he picked Sumser?

No, Jason Goldberg is a big believe in community, and genuinely I believe he wanted to do the right thing by bringing in a known industry name.
