Two schools of job advertising – those who believe in ‘maximum exposure’ versus those who seek ‘quality candidates’ – are colliding on CareerBuilder, and almost everyone is losing.
- If you’re a ‘quality candidate’ advertiser, you lose because your ads are being leapfrogged in the list of search results – perhaps to the point that quality candidates give up looking through the ‘junk’ before they see your ad.
- And if you’re CareerBuilder, you lose the value of what was once the most accurate job search engine on the market. Now, primarily due to ‘tag spam’, you’ve dropped to last place in a new job search shootout against Jobster, Indeed, and SimplyHired (more results to follow in future posts).
Not sure what ‘tag spam’ is? The image above (click for a larger view) shows a nice example from IPG & Associates, Inc.. From the breadth of terms, it appears they want everyone. Well, almost everyone … It doesn’t appear that they want brain surgeons.
