Effective semi-active job search requires: 1) tools for saving and managing saved searches; 2) effective communication strategies (email or RSS); 3) broad coverage of available jobs; and 4) an accurate search/match engine.
JobCentral provides an email-based search agent (no RSS); but in JobCentral – A Hybrid Parallel Vertical Whatchamacallit I pointed out that their agents only search native JobCentral content – fewer than 500k jobs nationally.
So even though JobCentral touts the ability to search over 4 million jobs, through linkages to Indeed, Jobster and SimplyHired, semi-active jobseekers see only a small percentage of this content.
As a result, during this test search for auto sales jobs in Boston, MA, JobCentral returned no matching jobs. But in contrast to HotJobs, a real-time search of JobCentral reveals the same results returned by the saved search agent – so the JobCentral search agent appears to be working correctly.
With limited native coverage of the job market, and search agents that ignore partner content, JobCentral is the 8th best site for semi-active job search.
