CareerBuilder is in a horse race with Monster for the title of most active job board – each can claim title to the crown depending on the metric and source.
Monster wins hands down in terms of revenue; but CareerBuilder provides broader coverage of the job market, delivering 20% coverage compared to 12% for Monster in this comparison (see the initial post for background.)
Perhaps CareerBuilder’s biggest advantage for active job seekers is its use of search technology provided by Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) – in this group of 10 sites, CareerBuilder leads the pack in search accuracy. After all, which is more important, having the most jobs, or having the best process for finding the job that best matches your search? I’d answer this way:
If you’re searching in a broad geographical area with a high volume of jobs, pick the site with the best search technology to help you find the needle in the proverbial haystack; but,
- If you’re searching in a narrow geographical area with relatively few jobs, pick the site with the best coverage of the job market – search technology becomes much less important in this case.
Since our hypothetical jobseeker is located in Eugene, Oregon – a narrow geographical area with a limited job pool – CareerBuilder is the 7th best choice.
